Our Consortium

GUESS leverages the unique strengths and complementary expertise of its consortium members in gamification, environmental sustainability, and digital education across several prestigious European higher education institutions. These include the Hellenic Open University, Greece; Maieutica Cooperativa de Ensino Superior CRL, Portugal; Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, Spain; Panepistimio Patron, Greece; and Mendelova Univerzita v Brne, Czech Republic. Together, they aim to enhance university students’ understanding of environmental sustainability through innovative gamified learning environments, fostering a sustainable future through education.

HOU is one of the newest Universities in Greece, as it was established in 1996 and started its operation in 1998. HOU is a distance-learning university and provides courses in all levels of tertiary education, being the only distance-learning university in Greece.

HOU has four Schools: Applied Arts and Sustainable Design, Humanities, Science and Technology and Social Sciences. It offers currently 9 undergraduate programs and more than 60 MSc programs. HOU has more than 25,000 undergraduate students, more than 25,000 students in MSc programs and about 100 PhD students.

University of Patras was founded in the city of Patras in 1964 and it began functioning in the Academic year 1966-67. Since its early days, the major aim of the University of Patras has been the effective interaction with the European and International Environment. The University of Patras (UPAT) has a great number of research, teaching and training links that support opportunities of creating successful collaboration with Institutions and Research Centres around the world.

University of Maia – UMAIA was recognized as a higher education institution (HEI) on October 2, 1991. Since then, ISMAI has expanded its educational offering in the fields of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Business Sciences, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Communication Sciences and Information Technologies, as well as its physical facilities and is now the 2nd largest private HEI in Portugal. Currently, UMAIA is a Portuguese university that seeks to develop research in the most varied subjects, with the aim of producing high quality scientific knowledge.

Nestled in Brno, Czech Republic, Mendel University has been a pioneer in life sciences since its founding in 1919. While its expertise flourishes in fields like forestry, agriculture, and horticulture, MendelU extends its reach far beyond. The university boasts five faculties – Forestry and Wood Technology, Agrisciences, Horticulture, Business and Economics, and Regional Development and International Studies. They offer a range of study programmes on bachelor´s, master´s and doctoral level to 8.000 students.

The GUESS team, hailing from the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies, embodies the commitment to interdisciplinarity and real-world application. Our foundation lies in the crossroads of economics, social sciences, environmental, and political studies, making us uniquely equipped to tackle the challenges of the world.

Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) was established as a higher education institution in the year 1998, evolving from a long-standing tradition of engineering and business studies in the region. Located in Cartagena, Spain, UPCT has broadened its academic offerings over the years to include degrees in Engineering, Business, Architecture, and Maritime Studies. The university is well-equipped with modern facilities and is renowned for its strong emphasis on research and innovation. UPCT is committed to providing a rigorous education that prepares its students for global challenges, making significant contributions to both local and international communities. As an institution, UPCT continues to enhance its reputation for quality in both teaching and research, aiming to produce outstanding scientific and technical knowledge.
