The GUESS Project (Gamified User-Centered Environmental Sustainability for University Students) has reached an important milestone with the implementation and evaluation of the early versions of its gamified 3D Virtual World Learning Environment (VWLE).
During this phase, students, educators, and professional stakeholders from the five partner institutions – University of Patras, Hellenic Open University, Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, University of Maia, and Mendel University in Brno – participated in the piloting process.
Participants engaged with four interactive sustainability scenarios:
- 🌊 Lake Lifeline
- 💧 Desalination Plant
- ♻️ Proper Recycling Practices
- 🔮 Glimpse into the Future
Feedback was collected through comprehensive Feedback and Engagement Metrics Questionnaires, focusing on usability, enjoyment, learning outcomes, and interaction within the gamified environment. The analysis showed that the platform is engaging, educational, and effective in raising sustainability awareness, while also highlighting areas for improvement in the upcoming Beta release.
📈 More than 120 participants contributed to this phase, offering insights that will guide the refinement of the virtual platform and ensure its alignment with the project’s pedagogical goals.
This achievement demonstrates the project’s commitment to using immersive, game-based learning to inspire students towards sustainability and critical thinking about environmental challenges.
Stay tuned for the next steps as we move towards the Beta implementation and wider dissemination activities.
